Folding Party-108 Quilts on Their Way!
I had the pleasure of a visit from Ann D. this weekend for my Intro to Quilt Packing lesson. I am not sure if any of you remember but I joined Wrap-A-Smile as the Northeast Coordinator right as the pandemic started. So even though I have been working with WAS for four years now, I have never packed quilts to send to the Rotaplast storage facility in California. Now that their missions to families worldwide have resumed in full force, it is time to get WAS quilt inventory restocked!
The night before my instructor's arrival, I laid out 108 quilts that had been accumulating at my house for the past 10 months. I continue to be amazed by the creativity, color and variety of the quilts that you send. Here are some photos of the quilts I have recently received from quilters in the New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Steve and Ann came to Exeter on their way to western New Hampshire and we had a delightful lunch and then the work began. I learned to fold each lovingly made quilt into a 19 1/2 x 9 1/2 rectangle. Once we had folded 36 quilts, expert packer and taper Steve helped us vacuum pack all the quilts into a 20" cube box. It is amazing how the huge, unwieldy pile of quilts becomes a compact little square! We repeated this process twice more and now 108 of your handmade creations, weighing 139 total pounds are on their way to California.
Thank you, sewists, for all your hard-work, talent and charitable acts. Wrap-A-Smile appreciates you!

ReplyDeleteHow lucky you are to be able to touch each and every one of those beautiful works of love! Thank you Paige, Ann and Steve for all your hard work getting them perfectly cubed.
