Afghan Quilt Delivery Updates

Image
Hello Wrap-A-Smile Quilters!  I wanted to let you know that 100 of the 200 quilts I have on hand have been delivered to Afghan children.  We hope to have some photos to share but until then, a heart-warming story!  I went on a delivery yesterday. This little 4 year old grasped her bright, dramatic, rose dappled quilt (by Sheila H.), wrapped herself up and declared herself queen (through the translator, of course!).  It was precious and brought tears to my eyes!  Thank you for all the amazing quilts you have created.  What a blessing your handiwork is to all!  I continue to receive quilts from WAS quilters.  I love these special deliveries.   Check out the newest arrivals!  From Sharon L. and Cheryl C. in Maine From Susan H. We are back to quilting with a sense of purpose!  After the exciting announcement about Wrap-A-Smile partnering with Quilts Beyond Borders (while we wait for Rotaplast to request more quilts), Ann and I have been contacted by so many of you -ready to mail quilts, ready to finish up quilts, and ready to start making quilts with all the children’s fabric you have purchased during the pandemic!  I picked up 187 quilts from Karen, the NE QBB coordinator in Worcester yesterday!  Added to the others I have from various WAS NE quilters and guilds, we have sufficient quilts in order to share a quilt with each evacuated Afghan child currently settled through Welcome NHT in NH and MA.  We also have enough for several other families still expected to arrive in the next month or so from military bases or those still in hotels awaiting their new homes.  By Sue H By Pam, MA By Linda, RI From Nancy S, MA Yesterday I delivered the first 9 quilts to two local NH team leaders and today I am choosing qui

Ready! Set! GO!    I have exciting news to share!  As Rotaplast continues to be “on hold” (and 1,000 quilts made by you are still waiting in San Francisco) and I have collected about 50 quilts from various New England quilters during the pandemic, I decided to find a way to share these quilts NOW to make some children smile!   First, I obtained each quilter or guild’s permission to find homes for their creations and then I began looking for someplace that children could be blessed and encouraged by a homemade quilt.  Ascentria Care Alliance (Ascentria.org) and their partner, Welcome Neighborhood Settlement Teams (welcomeMST.org) responded quickly and enthusiastically to my emails.  They work together to welcome, support and house evacuated Afghan families as they settle into their new lives in New England. With more than 50 families, they are helping 200 Afghan children now and expect more families to arrive in the next month. This was a terrific development but I was in a quandary as
