Closer to Home

While we are still waiting to gift quilts overseas to children with clefts, we recognize that there are so many immediate needs right in our own country.  Most recently the widespread devastation from tornadoes in Kentucky and neighboring states breaks our hearts. The needs are huge and there are many ways to help.

We received this notice from Hancock's of Paducah which we would like to share.

Forwarded by the Asheville Quilt Guild,  from Backyard Fabric in Mayfield, KY:

They are accepting donated quilts to go to residents who have lost everything due to the recent tornadoes.

Quilts should be sent to Dana Hughes, 421 State Route 893,  Mayfield, KY  42066.
Please send by UPS or FedEx since their local post office was lost to the storms.
To send by USPS, use this address:  Angie Ashburn, 831 Aspen Way,  Paducah, KY  42003.

Here is the shop’s Facebook page, which has posts about the storm, the community and sending quilts.

We are happy to have our readers share information about other initiatives to help our storm-ravaged neighbors.  Please feel free to share other information in the comments section below.

We still have no official update yet on when Rotaplast and Alliance for Smiles will start scheduling their international missions but we stay hopeful that 2022 will have some dates on the calendar.  We promise to let you know when more WAS quilts are needed!!

Rotaplast team fixing smiles and changing lives

In the meantime, we have been so heartened to have kept in touch with our network of Wrap-A-Smile quilters, hearing about the many ways they have shared quilts with children going into foster care, with seniors, with hospital patients and many others in a myriad of challenging situations. We've had a difficult couple of years, but so many lives have been brightened by your gifts of hand-made love.  Thank you to all who have stayed engaged, making our world just a bit brighter, one beautiful quilt at a time.

Wishing you peace and joy with your friends and families, and good health, this holiday season, ~Ann
